My project

Technology and Teenagers: a Survey

THE PROJECT

Even before starting doing anything related to this survey, I was always keen on digital technologies. Seeing how smartphones, computers and the Internet have become such an integral part of our lifestyle, I wondered how much of this dependence on the internet originates from my generation. The personal project was just the opportunity to really research this topic, which has always interested me.

In order to succeed in the process, I have set a specific goal:
I intend to research on the use of Technology (Television, Computers, Smartphones, etc.) by teenagers on the course of the past decade, and then create a questionnaire based on my previous research and receive answers from a large number of teenagers (Most probably Anatolia College students) so that in the end I manage to upload the research results on an Internet website.
This goal has been the heart of my project, as it has been the epicenter of everything else I am doing and it determines partly whether I am successful or not in the long run.

Apart from the goal, I have also set a specific inquiry question which has set the general concept and aspiration I have had throughout the process: "What have been the changes within the usage of Technology by teenagers, and knowing this, how can I utilize them to create my own questionnaire regarding the subject? Is it, using the above techniques and research results, possible to objectively inform people on the changes related to Technology and its use by teens?"

Additionally, I have set a global context looking into the process, which essentially is the perspective through which I see the goal. For this instance, I have set my global context to be "Orientation in Time and Space". In other words, I will be looking to compare past behaviors with the present usage of technology and demonstrate how high school has had an impact on the usage of digital technologies by teenagers.

As far as the process is concerned, the project is split into 4 separate Criteria, which represent a significant part of the work done. These include research, design, organization skill, creating the final product and receiving feedback. I have gone in depth in regards to the questionnaire research, design and distribution on the "Survey and Methodology" page, so I will not be repeating myself, for further information visit the "Survey and Methodology" page on this website.

As far as organization of my work is concerned, it is important to mention that every part of my work has been uploaded on an online folder labelled the "Process Journal". This effectively tracks my work and helps organize my progress. Apart from that, I have needed to develop a short-term and long-term calendar, alongside a to-do list to have coherent and efficient planning. Instead of following this method I decided to develop a system where all these 3 functions belong in one digital application. In the google calendar I developed, there is certain color coordination, which is essential to understand what is going on:

Green- Short Term goal

Red- Long Term goal

Blue- Completed long-term goal

Light Blue- Completed short-term goal

Grey- Goal (either short-term or long term) which has not been completed according to the calendar

Whenever there was a change in the situation of a planned goal or I added/removed/changed a goal, the link would be updated automatically. This method of organizing my progress and To-Dos was really important in the
